One of our founders, Bird S. Owen, Jr.opened the doors of his first funeral home on August 27, 1939. His goal was to provide a necessary service to people at their greatest time of need, and to do so as a neighbor and friend. Since that day, more than eight decades ago, we have honored his high standards and caring ideals in our daily endeavors. Even though Bird has passed away, the Owens are still present in the funeral home-Bird's wife Edith, and their 2 children, Linda and David.
Brothers Henry, Joseph and Ben Bosse were cabinet makers by trade, and as was the custom of the day, they made coffins by hand. They were also engaged in the retail furniture business at 522 Green Street (now Liberty Street). In 1908, Henry Bosse Jr. took over the day to day operation of the funeral home. His son Robert Bosse (one of our founders) followed him in 1943. The Bosse family still maintains a presence in the day to day operation of the funeral home through Robert's nephew William Wagner, and his sons, James and Robert.
