Obituary for Rev. Dr. A. Michael "Mike" Warren

Rev. Dr. A. Michael "Mike" Warren
of LaGrange, Ky, entered into the kingdom prepared for him by his life-long Lord and Savior on January 30, 2018. He is preceded in death by his mother Genevieve Downing and father Seibert Warren. Mike was born on March 22, 1940, in Charleston, WV, and attended Marshall University in Huntington where he earned his degree and met the woman that he would love for the rest of his life. After graduation, he would attend and graduate from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia.

Mike served local Presbyterian churches as pastor in Virginia, Mississippi, West Virginia, and Tennessee, as a Presbyter in North Carolina and in the National Office of the PC(USA). While serving as a full-time solo pastor, he earned his Doctorate of Ministry from McCormick Seminary in Chicago. After his Honorable Retirement, he continued his service to the church playing bass in the praise team and singing in the Chancel Choir. He continued to study, preach and filled in for the full-time pastor during lengthy absences at Meadowview Presbyterian Church in Louisville, Ky. He was known for his compassion, dry humor, in-depth preparation, and issuing challenges to the status quo as the church went through the late sixties and into the new millennium. His focus on caring for the congregation during life events, regular visitation and sharing the comfort he found within the scriptures, allowed him to witness many glorious acts of the Spirit.

Mike is survived by his dearly loved wife of 56 years, Helen Warren, their children Sheryl Olszewski (Michael) and Rob Warren, grandchildren Wrynn Boucher and Donovan Warren, sister Mrs.Dan (Diana) Risher, sister-in-law Dr. Barbara Jones Springer (Don) and a host of nephews and nieces.

A service of remembrance and blessing will be held at Covenant United Methodist Church, 909 W Jefferson St, LaGrange, KY 40031 early in March.

Memorials may be made in care of Covenant UMC for the “Blessings in a Backpack” mission, a program that provides week-end food for eligible children.
